Lockheed Hudson Bomber

The Model 214 was developed in 1938 from the Lockheed 14 transport to meet RAF requirements and designated as the Hudson I. It was first flown on December 10, 1938, and served as a coastal reconnaissance bomber with the RAF.

PBY 5-a Canso Waterbomber (Catalina)

In 1933 the US Navy ordered the first PBY-5A Catalina. Its prototype XP3Y-1 was first flown on March 28, 1935. It went on to become the most successful flying boat to see service in the US Forces in WWII. Over 3,000 were built.

Beechcraft 18-S

The Beech Model 18 was produced for the small feeder airline market in 1937 and is remembered for its service as a corporate aircraft, passenger liner and bush freighter. Production continued for 32 years during which time over 9100 aircraft of various versions were built.

CF-101 Voodoo

The Voodoo made many accomplishments such as the World Speed Record in 1957 recording 1207.6 mph and extending reconnaissance performance into the supersonic field.

De Havilland Tiger Moth

The DeHavilland DH-82 was a very significant aircraft in the Allied war effort because of its vast use as a wartime trainer aircraft. The two-seater Tiger Moth was used in various Elementary Flight Training Schools as well!

FERRY COMMAND
ATLANTIC FERRY COMMAND

1940s Britain was struggling with the lack of air power and the demands for aircraft in Europe. Transported by ship, the unpredictable timing of delivery was detrimental to their fight in WWII. Some UK planners broached the idea of flying the aircraft to the UK, direct from bases on the east coast of North America.

DC-3 Cockpit

This wonderous aircraft came to its final rest at the North Atlantic Aviation Museum in 1996. Although we don’t have the entire plane, the cockpit on display and accessible for entry has been redesigned for an immersive simulated flight experience!

SAFE HAVEN

Our museum is home to the Safe Haven exhibit, sharing the stories of Gander and surrounding towns during that week in 2001. Join us for a video, thank you letters, and ATC audio. Along with a piece of steel from the Twin Towers on display. You can have your photo with Commander Gander, a local who was the host of a giant birthday party for kids. Beverly Bass’s uniform, featured in Come from Away, is on display along with other memorabilia.
